Inside Story

Over the past few weeks we have been reading The Bad Beginning, the first of thirteen books in Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events. With only a couple chapters left in the book we will soon be finished, so we best have some fun with it while we can! This week's read aloud activity allows you to choose one or more of the following options. Post your response(s), and be sure to read and reply to your classmates responses too!

Option 1 :        Imagine you are one of the characters in the story(Violet, Klaus, Sunny, Count
Olaf or Mr Poe). Write about your feelings regarding the recent events that have
taken place in your life. Additionally, discuss your feelings and opinions about what
will happen in the near future.

Option 2 :        Create your own ending to the story in accordance to what you already know about
the story. Use your knowledge about the Baudelaire children's unlucky past, and your
own imagination to predict what will happen in the ending of the story.

Option 3 :        Write a journal entry about your feelings regarding the story. Discuss how you feel
about the characters and the story, and why you like or dislike the book.

Option 4 :         Develop a story map using Powerpoint. Be sure to include descriptions of each
important character (Violet, Klaus, Sunny, Count Olaf, Justice Strauss,
Mr. Poe, and the Baudelaire Parents), as well as each important event within
what we have read of the book so far (perhaps one event for each chapter).

  7. Great idea to give different options for the children to choose from for this book. Every student expresses themselves in different ways and these options give them that choice.

  12. Great work Deanyka!! I really enjoyed the layout and design of your blog. The material you created was both stimulating and engaging for your audience. I personally feel many of your students will enjoy this material, especially with the options you have provided. As well, this was a great way to promote communication among different students within the class.
