Inside Story

Over the past few weeks we have been reading The Bad Beginning, the first of thirteen books in Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events. With only a couple chapters left in the book we will soon be finished, so we best have some fun with it while we can! This week's read aloud activity allows you to choose one or more of the following options. Post your response(s), and be sure to read and reply to your classmates responses too!

Option 1 :        Imagine you are one of the characters in the story(Violet, Klaus, Sunny, Count
Olaf or Mr Poe). Write about your feelings regarding the recent events that have
taken place in your life. Additionally, discuss your feelings and opinions about what
will happen in the near future.

Option 2 :        Create your own ending to the story in accordance to what you already know about
the story. Use your knowledge about the Baudelaire children's unlucky past, and your
own imagination to predict what will happen in the ending of the story.

Option 3 :        Write a journal entry about your feelings regarding the story. Discuss how you feel
about the characters and the story, and why you like or dislike the book.

Option 4 :         Develop a story map using Powerpoint. Be sure to include descriptions of each
important character (Violet, Klaus, Sunny, Count Olaf, Justice Strauss,
Mr. Poe, and the Baudelaire Parents), as well as each important event within
what we have read of the book so far (perhaps one event for each chapter).

Basic Steps

This week we have been very active! Lets keep track of how active we were this week!

Throughout the week, keep track of your daily activity in your fitness journal, and on Friday share your activities with the class! Each day be sure to include a description of the activity or activities you did, as well as how long you did them. Share all of your activities, big or small! If you have a step tracker, include the number of steps you took throughout the day!

Here is a sample activity log that I recorded from yesterday!

Tuesday:
  • walked the dog - 30 mins
  • soccer - 2 hours
  • went to the gym - 1 hour
  • total activity time: 3 hours & 30 minutes
  • total daily steps: 12,324

Math Masters

Hey grade fours!

Check out this cool video!

Finished Already??
Okay!

Now that you know how to add three-digit numbers, lets share that knowledge with the rest of the class!

Create your own three-digit math equation and share it with the rest of the class in the comments! Be sure to keep the answer to yourself!  On Monday, Miss B. will put all of your equations on a worksheet for the class to work on. How cool is that? A worksheet created by you!

Buddy Reading

Marble Ridge has been participating in buddy reading for the past fourteen (14) years! The students always seem to enjoy the program, and the younger students whom you are helping benefit a lot from your input and expertise in the subject matter! But we would like to hear from you! What do you think about the buddy reading program? Do you enjoy buddy reading? Is there anything you would change about the program?

Feel free to lay out all your thoughts here, and discuss them with the teacher and your classmates!

Habitats

Over the past two weeks we have been exploring different habitats. There are four main habitats that we have explored:

                             Oceans                                                                     Freshwater

Forest                                                                              Arctic

This week we are going to share our favorite habitats, and why! In your descriptions, talk about some of the different flora and fauna found in your favorite habitat, and where the habitat can be found in Canada!

My favorite habitat is the ocean. I like the ocean because I think it is beautiful. The life forms under the sea are very interesting, and so much different than those above the sea! Under the sea there are many different types of flora a fauna. The flora in the ocean includes kelp, seaweed, and corals! My favorite flora in the ocean is corals, because they are so bright and pretty! There are many different fauna in the ocean too, such as fish, jellyfish, whales, and even polar bears, puffins and other land mammals and birds! I think that is it really cool that many of the fauna we are used to seeing on land are also a part of ocean habits, because they often like to swim, or find food from the ocean. Oceans are found in many places, and take up about 75% of the whole earth! The closest ocean to us right now is the Atlantic ocean, and it surrounds all sides of Newfoundland!

Your turn!

Crochet Club Project

A lot of you are members of Marble Ridge's crochet club, so you already know that we have just finished making our very first crochet project of the year; Wally Whale! Here is a picture of my finished whale:

I hope you all will share a picture of your whales as well!

Now that our first project is finished, it is time to choose our second project; and I need YOUR help! Even if you are not a member of the crochet club, I (and the club members) would love to hear your opinions on what we should crochet next! Here are a few ideas! Introducing:

Gina Giraffe                                 Ollie Octopus             &           Mimi the Unicorn

Comment below which project you would like to work on next, or that you think the crochet club should work on!
Don't see a project you like? That's okay! Tell us what you think we should create next.

Remember, if you are not already a member of the crochet club and would like to be, we accept new members at any time! See Miss B. if you would like to become a member!
